Fade to Black
The progress achieved in hospitality by a generation or two of industrious Americans has ceased, and all evidence of their accomplishments are being systematically eradicated.

Above: Nashville-West's highway sign, once easily spotted for miles around, was painted black as if it were in mourning. Note that the upper part of the sign dates from 1985 and is usually referred to as a "rounded edge" sign. Its faces originally used the no apostrophe 'S' logo and "banner" orange roof. After 1996 its faces were replaced with the Cendant Howard Johnson era logo.

Missing most of its window glass, and even its door frames removed, the gutted classic Gate Lodge silently awaits its destruction.

Higher: Note the interesting view through one of the frames looking up above the false ceiling to where the drops were once suspended.
