Right: While the front of the Motor Lodge received a full coating of stucco and additional embellishments, the hidden back side remained true to its original circa 1966 look!
Left: The towering highway sign allowed motorists a chance to exit I-95 since the Motor Lodge had become hidden by foliage over time, and a billboard directed patrons directly to the complex once they exited the Interstate.

Above and Left: Incredibly as recently as the middle 2000s, Fredericksburg's I-95 facing side remained true to form--round balcony lights, colored screened railings, sliders, dividers, as well as the pebble veneer all still extant!

A desk clerk indicated that the original owners were involved with the Davis Brothers chain, but could provide little other information. The area has seen a building boom of motels/hotels which does not bode well for the older ones like the Howard Johnson's. It is a must stay and see place--one of the last three original Howard Johnson's Motor Lodges in Virginia--don't wait too long or it'll be gone like the rest.

Update: Too late to see the vintage Motor Lodge, for it has been remodeled and rebranded as a Country Inn & Suites.
