Although Lynchburg's Motor Lodge had suffered from paint and stucco, and had had its Gate Lodge squared off and decapitated, the site continued to remain recognizable--even in its early days as a Best Value.

Lower: Bob noted that while his room imbued traditional HoJo's character, it suffered from an extreme case of deferred maintenance (he was a guest while the Lodge was still a branded Howard Johnson).

Above: Note the original Howard Johnson's patio/balcony furniture--it was one of two basic patterns that had been standardized at HoJo's of the 1960s.
