The Motor Lodge was officially listed as a Howard Johnson until about 2003. However in December of 2001 the site was obviously closed--even as its towering highway sign advertised its availability. Moreover, threatening "no trespassing" signs were strategically posted near every entrance to the site in order to warn off would be guests and HoJo's fans.

Above: Upon Mr. Edwards' 2002 visit to the site, its Howard Johnson signs remained, but he observed little or no activity.

Lower: Phil's second visit nearly a year after his first revealed that the site was open, but its proprietors had covered up the Howard Johnson highway sign and had pretentiously renamed the place, Petersburg Inn & Suites.
