Although operating in some capacity at the beginning of 2004, no desk clerk or employee could be located on the grounds or in the Gate Lodge to answer my questions. Furthermore there was no indication that the Motor Lodge had a name, for the information that Phil had photographed on the street sign's reader board was missing. Apparently the property was catering to a few longer term lodgers and that was it!

Update: Perhaps not long after visits to Petersburg, the former Motor Lodge received a modest refreshing and became a Travelodge--so at least for a while lodger it will continue to serve the motoring public--that is if travelers can be enticed off of the Interstate to stay in the vintage Motor Lodge.

The Petersburg Restaurant made it as a Howard Johnson's nearly a quarter of a century. After about 1994, it's status was muddled and at one point was simply called the Pancake & Steakhouse. Probably after 1998 it closed for good, or at least until some new proprietor remakes or tears it down.
