Danville, Virginia -- Greensboro Hwy. (U.S. 29S)

Among the first batch of Nims-types in Virginia, Danville likely opened in 1952. Built on the south side of the city it was well-sited to capture motorists headed in or out of town. Moreover it was assured of patrons by virtue of its proximity to the AAA rated and Duncan Hines recommended Wayside Motor Court.

Even as the location remained a Howard Johnson's only about 15 years, business was apparently good enough that the Restaurant's owners added on to the building as evidenced by the extra wing on the left that was also topped with Orange porcelain enamel tiles (compare with the postcard view at the top of this page).
