Built
on difficult terrain, the Wytheville Motor Lodge had a commanding
view of the valley. It was an early standardized Motor Lodge opening
in 1961 with a "squat" A-frame Gate Lodge. Initially
Wytheville only featured 36 guest units, but by the time it ceased
being a HoJo's in 1996, it had come to offer 100.

The
small Nims-type Restaurant probably lasted until the late 1980s.
It was demolished and a Bob Evans occupied its site by 1992. Moreover,
part of an adjacent parcel of hillside was leveled out and sprouted
a Cracker Barrel.
