Last listed in Howard Johnson's 1995 directory as a HoJo Inn, the Motor Lodge lost the brand and became the unaffiliated Shenandoah Inn. Subsequently it became a Travelodge, but for a period of time during the middle 2000s it was not listed in their reservation system--even as the location continued to use its Travelodge signs.

Right: The Wytheville Travelodge recycled the Howard Johnson 1985-1996 era "rounded corner" street sign.

Below: The Gate Lodge was demolished and a new lobby had been built adjacent to one of the guest buildings. Its entry was marked by the portico in the background of the photo and was an especially unremarkable structure except that it was faced with natural brick that was a close match to the pattern used on the guest buildings.

The three single story sections of Wytheville appeared as recently as the middle 2000s to have remained largely original and intact. It is possible that the rooms retain natural brick! Please note that these buildings never featured sliders, but instead had floor-to-ceiling windows and a door which led out onto each patio.
