A
Study in Guest Buildings!
Wytheville began with just 36 rooms in three first generation
standard single level buildings. Then in the late 1960s a fourth
second generation two-story building offering 24 rooms was added
higher on the hillside. Like the original single level structures,
each room had one wall of natural brick, but unlike the earlier
buildings the rooms featured sliders.

Finally
a standardized last generation generation building was built on
the site which contained 40 guest rooms. While it was similar
to the circa 1960s two-story building, its rooms neither featured
an interior brick wall, nor did they offer full-sized patios/balconies.
It is considerably remarkable that at each stage of expansion
the Motor Lodge's owners opted to match the exterior brick so
as to create the illusion that the entire site had been built
at the same time!
