But the playgrounds weren't just for people
passing through. For many years this Motor Lodge provided a special
place for locals as well as travelers to enjoy what Howard Johnson's
directories billed the "Finest Playground in the South!"
The shrewd proprietor of this Lodge hired out the playground
for parties and shown here are photos from parties that Phil
was lucky enough to have been a part of when he was a child.
Sadly today the parties are all over. Most of
where the playground once was is now Interstate right-of-way.
