It was the Fall
of 1964 when the Howard Johnson's in West Boylston opened--it
was a good year for the Company. In fact, 1964 was the year that
Howard Johnson's officially became the largest hospitality chain
in the Universe. The West Boylston complex was built to the east
of I-190--it was actually a poor location for highway travelers.
However its isolation from the Interstate Highway likely played
a critical role in its preservation. Not seen by Cendant's Minions,
it was not mutilated. West Boylston's A-frame Gate Lodge is
THE LAST EXTANT
