Beaumont's
Restaurant was a post-Nims design based on the larger prototype
that was built in Dallas (Stemmons
1964). At their hey day, hundreds of the type found at Beaumont
proliferated at Interstate interchanges across the United States.
Later the design was adapted to save construction costs and used
a Mansard facade.

The
Restaurant's exterior was remarkably recognizable in 2006. In
the 1970s I ate in the then Howard Johnson's in route to Astroworld
(see post
script about the theme park).
