Howard Johnson's Landmark, 1975: Kummerlowe Archive

Stamford, Connecticut -- 135 Harvard Avenue

Opened May of 1975, the eight-story 160 guest room Stamford complex was built in record time using an innovative and cost saving modular design. Constructed of "concrete box modules," each was trucked to the site and stacked. Complete erection took only 25 work days.

Stamford was the fourth of operator Gerald Nielsen's Motor Lodges. In addition to Stamford, he owned Warwick, Mystic, and East Lyme.
