             This long-time
Motor Lodge had an interesting history. Its exterior was used
in a series of "generic" postcards advertising Howard
Johnson's. One view was even used on a generic comment card.
Yet another indicated that it depicted the Key West Howard Johnson's. |

            Listed in HJ directories
from 1958 through 1973, Daytona-South briefly lost its place.
It was not listed as a Motor Lodge for a couple of years before
being relisted. During that time its adjacent Restaurant moved
to the section of stand-alone locations in the directories, but
the complex was listed again in 1975 and apparently remained
Under the Orange Roof until the early 1980s.
            At some point after it
was a Howard Johnson's, the Motor Lodge was split apart. The
front guest buildings along with the Gate Lodge became the Royal
Inn, while the buildings that were behind the Restaurant became
            the Host Inn.
