Seen below, the
Springfield Howard Johnson's Restaurant originally displayed
"Howard Johnson's" in vivid neon on its roof beneath
the cupola tower. Also note that Simple Simon is gold and that
the restaurant had been "environmentalized" with brown
trim.
Both the Restaurant and
Motor Lodge were opened in the late Spring of 1965. Unfortunately
the Gate Lodge was demolished when the Motor Lodge was converted
to a Holiday Inn Express.
