Capitalizing
on proximity to the local University of North Carolina
campus, a "fast food" HoJo's unit was opened
in 1970. It offered self-service and allowed seating
for 50 guests in a restaurant that was "designed
for customers who want[ed] quick meals in comfortable
surroundings." The limited menu and service outlet
was never listed in Howard Johnson's directories and
was likely short-lived.
